Circadian Nostalgia
Kissing the stars speckled on a blackened sheet
Clouds slip off the tongue
A wispy midnight smoke rises
The day’s words fade away.
With memories resting on a muddled synapse
As for the dreams tonight, they’ll be forgotten at morning’s wake
Purple dusk, then orange en route to blue again,
by day’s break
Brush the pearly whites, and
Rinse away the night’s sourness
For you cannot fully taste the morning’s glory
Without a palate that’s cleared
There will be days
Where temptation lurks
Urging a pause to these morning ablutions
Save the morsels stuck between the teeth
Only then do the smiles flash red
As the sun’s phoenix flare dims
The stars pucker up, waiting for a kiss that never arrives
The bite of a narcoleptic zombie rots at your side
And only in dreams or so it seems
That fragments, of good days past, revisit
Woeful are the scraps of the day
Living off the memories of what’s stuck between the teeth
The true taste, long forgotten
The sunset’s on a grayscale gradient
Pink only in a gummy smile
Your ribs, and the moon
Protruding, wading into a blackened nothingness
As the night’s grace wears thin
Minutes braid together
Until the tapestry that’s the day starts it burn
And the stars fall from the sky
Petals that herald the dawn
