Fallen Dreams

She was marvelous and tall in her dreams
As a redwood, gallant and free
Her leaves scraping the sky
Awoken by an axe
Wielded by an astral marauder
So she fell
Her leaves,
taking one last graze from the clouds,
grappling hopelessly at the moon’s ledge
Her branches snapping on the fall
Fraying her bark
Her beauty distorted
A jumbled mindscape of loaded dice
As she lays on the bed
A poisoned axe on her side
Her leaves fluttering with their emerald glow
the moss still lush
her roots now reaching to the sky.
She was still marvelous
