The Coffee Shop

Music broken by grinding beans,

Muffled talk                  work, school, cats, death,

Fingers dance frantically on keyboards,

Chairs scrape, rubber chalk on the floor.

Lights dimmed,

Sun, piercing through the windows,

Catching the dust kicked up from clothes

Smells of sandwiches and old paper,

Cool air, dry and still.

Turning back to work,

Waking from a dream.
